Free Motion Quilting -

I am working on free motion quilting on my Domestic Sewing Machine. Every day!  I have always loved Pat Holly and her sister Sue Nickels, they are from the same town as I in Michigan.  They have won numerous awards of applique and free motion quilting.  I have been blessed of taking classes from both over the years.  True blessing, one class was given by a local sewing dealer and another was from a guild I belong.  The classes were affordable and totally amazing.   Sue Nickels has two great books available on free motion quilting, worth every penny.See them at her store http://www.sue-nickels.com/store.php?cat=3

They are the ones who inspired me to start free motion quilting.  I started and I stopped.  Life happens.  2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 I have many losses in my life.  2013 and 2014 had two major surgeries, hip replacement and knee replacement.  I am the product of my Mom and Dad, I am only in my 50's but my body is falling apart cause of my folks genes.  I may add, I have awful eyesight, so, I am slow at things, many would give up, not me.  I need to seek knowledge and enjoy the fiber arts.  I do things differently but I do create from time to time.  I am not a speed marathon quilter.  I do things slow and easy.

What happen to Knitting?

I am knitting hats, and more hats.  Nothing fancy, just rib.  I am not posting my knitting fun right now but concentrating on free motion quilting.   I want to do something special on a quilt and can no afford sending out to a long armer.  Love Long Arm Quilters but right now my budget has a problem, and I do not have extra cash.   Knitting fun is in hats, let me know if you need any help, I will post to help you.

Have a great day stitching!

Free Motion Quilting on Domestic Sewing Machine

OK, I am practicing Free Motion Quilting.  It is working so great with my foot from Janome on my Bernina Machine.  I love it that it does not hop.  Yes, no hopping just gliding over the material.

I am practicing with just a sandwich of muslin and cotton batting.  No thread in top or bottom, just getting the movement and feeling

I discovered my Bernina has a half speed, it does help my go slowly and percise.

I am going to see if I can take a video with my camera, I have a simple camera but maybe it will work.  I know my cell phone will not take good videos.  I am weird, I am not a cell phone person, I do not play games cause when I have time, I want to quilt.

I am going to put thread in soon and try Polyester Isacord.  I saw on Leah Days site she likes the way it works. Many will not use polyester, but I have found it is stronger and especially Isacord.  When I get better, I will use the King Tut  and better quality.

I am trying size 14 needle first, they say that is what works.  I am also going to try one color on top and another in the bobbin to see how tension works.
