Are you knitting? I am. Not big projects, just hats and cowls with fingerless gloves. Yes, knitting is the greatest relaxer. Don't stop. Enjoy what you are working on, don't let others comments ruin the fun. I knit in lots of different places, I get lots of funny looks. I hear often, oh, my Grandma use to do that.
